User Experience Researcher and Designer
I am a UX practitioner with a strong background in online learning experiences. In addition to freelance UX research and design work, I also work full-time in a content strategy-oriented role, combining content with learning technology for an optimal student experience.
ABOUT ME
Long before I knew what UX was, I had always been a vocal critic of products that appeared to be designed without the user in mind. I could tell when proper UX research and design had been done before I had the vocabulary to define it.
My experience working with users in various IT roles, including technical support, mentoring, software configuration management, and academia, further contributed to my reputation of being “user-obsessed.” When I finally learned the true meaning of "user experience," I was finally able to put a name and methodology to a passion I already had.
In my current role, I am actively infusing good UX research and design principles into my daily responsibilities. I am doing heuristic evaluations for student-facing content, as well training colleagues on the importance of usability evaluations.
HUMAN-CENTERED PROCESS
RESEARCH
Conducting research to fully understand the needs of users, and aligning their goals with business objectives, are both critical steps in developing a successful product.
DESIGN
I combine quality research findings with out-of-the-box ideas, resulting in innovative conceptual designs.
EVALUATE
I conduct heuristic evaluations from the target user's point-of-view, while bearing in mind that no amount of expertise can replace good usability testing with target users.
ITERATE
Optimal solutions are almost never achieved on the first attempt. I view every failure as a learning experience that informs increasingly better design with each iteration.
PROJECT WORK
WHEN I'M NOT RESEARCHING AND PROBLEM SOLVING...
I love traveling and being outside, going hiking, biking, or just relaxing on the beach.
I enjoy indie films, music, and even video games when I have time.
